NMSU adds former Centennial star Tennessee Owens

A former basketball star at Centennial High School is coming home.

Tennessee Owens will be a walk-on at NMSU who can play beginning in the 2019-20 season.

Owens spent last season as a redshirt at Alabama-Huntsville (Div. II) before deciding to return to Las Cruces.

The former Hawk was a member of Centennial’s 5A state championship team as a sophomore in 2014-15 and then went on to average 18 points per game as a senior.

The Aggies have been successful at finding playing time for local prospects in recent years.

Forward Johnny McCants of Oñate High School was a key contributor for the Aggies last season and will return in 2018-19.

Guard Joe Garza of Las Cruces H.S. also found minutes last year for an Aggies team that grabbed a 12-seed in the NCAA Tournament. Garza posted a career-high 11 points in just eight minutes against Air Force in November of 2016.
