Man rescued from body of water near Santa Fe bridge

A man was rescued from a body of water near the Santa Fe International Bridge Wednesday morning, according to the El Paso Fire Department.

Authorities wouldn’t say what kind of body of water it was. ABC-7 heard over police scanners that it was a canal, but that information hasn’t been confirmed.

The incident was reported on the 1000 block of South El Paso Street near West Father Rahm Avenue just before 3 a.m. The area is not near a body of water, but fire officials told ABC-7 that was the confirmed location of the water rescue.

The man was taken to the hospital, but is expected to be OK, according to a fire department official.

Police said U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers got the man out of the water. ABC-7 heard over police scanners that the man was in custody of CBP.
