Minnesota beats NMSU 48-10; Aggies off to 0-2 start
NMSU lost its second game in five days Thursday night, falling 48-10 at Minnesota.
The Aggies led 10-7 at one point in the second quarter, but the Golden Gophers scored 28 in a row before the half to seize control of the game.
NMSU’s lone touchdown came in the first quarter on a 13-yard pass from Matt Romero to Izaiah Lottie. The Aggies have only recorded two touchdowns in their first two contests. They lost 29-7 at home against Wyoming on Saturday.
Through NMSU’s first two games, the Aggies have been outscored 77-17.
Romero completed exactly half of his passes Thursday night (29/58) and threw for 233 yards with a touchdown and one interception.
The Aggies struggled to run the ball again, tallying just 38 yards on 20 carries as a team. Meanwhile, Minnesota rushed for 295 yards and three touchdowns.
NMSU will next play at Utah State on Sept. 8 in a rematch of last year’s Arizona Bowl, which NMSU won in overtime, snapping a 57-year bowl victory drought.
