Franklin wins Sweet Play of the Week on Angel Jurado’s pick-six
The Franklin Cougars defeated rival Coronado by a final of 44-0 last Thursday at the Sun Bowl.
So, how could their season get even better? By winning Sweet Play of the Week, of course.
The Cougars did just that this week thanks to Angel Jurado’s pick-six that capped off the team’s impressive night against its west side nemesis.
Jurado intercepted a pass late in the game and ran all over the field before finding a lane down the left sideline and taking it to the house.

Jurado said he couldn’t have done it on his own and thanked his teammates for making some key blocks to set up his big return for a score.
“Well, I just want to say thank you to Caleb [Dry] and to [Jorge] Pompa. They were the main blockers there,” said Jurado.
Though Jurado managed to find the end zone at the end of the play, he says that at first he was happy to just get the interception.
“I caught it, and then as soon as I caught it I was like, ‘Now what do I do?’ And then I just ran,” he said.
That play won the entire Franklin team cupcakes from Albertsons – a sweet way to continue the celebration after last week’s victory.
The Cougars are 5-2 so far this season and 2-0 in district.
They close out the regular season with district matchups against Montwood, Pebble Hills, and Socorro.
