Men’s Basketball: Saint Mary’s leaves Las Cruces with win over NMSU

Saint Mary’s defeated New Mexico State Wednesday night at the Pan American Center by a final of 73-58.

Jordan Ford scored 28 points to lead Saint Mary’s while Malik Fitts added 20 points of his own.

A.J. Harris led NMSU with 17 points but was just 1-6 from beyond the arc. As a team, the Aggies struggled to hit from long range, connecting on just two of their 18 attempts from deep.

Meanwhile, the Gaels were 9-22 from downtown (40.9%) with Fitts accounting for four of those three-pointers.

The teams battled in a back-and-forth contest through the early portions of the first half before the Gaels took charge late in the half to grab a nine-point lead at the break.

Harris attempted to lead an NMSU comeback in the second half, but every time that the Aggies made a push, Saint Mary’s responded.

The Gaels improved to 3-0 on the season while NMSU dropped to 2-1.

The Aggies don’t have much time to dwell on this loss with a showdown at New Mexico looming this Saturday.
