Burger King app offering 1 cent whoppers if customers ‘order at McDonald’s’
El Pasoans looking for a quick bite to eat may find that discounts sometimes come right to your fingertips.
Burger King is offering a limited time promotion from Tuesday through December 12th that allows customers to buy a whopper sandwich for 1 cent – but there’s a catch.
In order to cash in on the deal, customers first have to download the Burger King app from their phone’s app store. Don’t order your whopper just yet, because now you have to drive to your nearest McDonald’s restaurant.
As long as the customer orders their whopper from app within 600 feet of a McDonald’s, which the app tracks using geo-fencing and the phone’s location settings, the discount will be given to the hungry patron.
After the order is made, the Burger King app will direct the customer to their nearest participating Burger King, where they can pick up their whopper.

Burger King’s Twitter account reflects the company’s enthusiasm for the promotion, leaving tweets like “if you happen to be going to McDonald’s today, drive safe” and “yeah, we went there.”
Burger King has named the promotion the “whopper detour” and is using it as a stunt to get more customers to start using their revamped app and into their doors.
Although the fast food chain has posted a video on their twitter of customers taking advantage of the promotion in front of McDonald’s Drive-thru workers, the company encourages customers to place their order in a manner that is not disruptive to McDonald’s employees and customers.
