UTEP hosts de-stressing events for students during finals week

Students at the University of Texas at El Paso are preparing for final exams this week, marking the end of the Fall semester.

Many students are also gearing up for long nights of studying and stress.

UTEP wants to help relieve some of the worries with scheduled events all week long to give students a mental and physical break.

“This is the culminating point of all the classes they have been taking this semester. So for some students, it’s stressful, it’s hectic and we do our best to make it less stressful for them and encourage them to do their best,” said Mallory Payan from the Office of Student Engagement and Leadership Center (SELC).

SELC partnered with other departments to organize de-stressing events like meditative painting and cupcake decorating.

“All of the departments are really coming together to show students we care about them,” Payan said.

The Recreational Sports Department is hosting two free yoga sessions Monday through Thursday.

Students can also expect other freebies like coffee, hot chocolate, donuts, scantrons and blue books.

Winter commencement is Saturday, December 15.
