Men’s Basketball: NMSU big men dominate in win over Northern Colorado

The NMSU men’s basketball team came back after a nine-day lay-off and defeated Northern Colorado at home Monday night by a final of 74-62.

The Aggies improved to 8-2 with the win while Northern Colorado dropped to 6-3 overall. NMSU has now won six of its last seven contests.

NMSU, which lost to Kansas by three points nine days ago, didn’t appear to be rusty early on and jumped out to a 17-point lead at the half.

But Northern Colorado would hang around in the second half, cutting the game to single digits before NMSU managed to hold on for the win.

The Aggie big men, Eli Chuha and Ivan Aurrecoechea dominated the game combined for 38 points and 13 rebounds in the victory.

Jordan Davis scored 20 points and added seven boards for the Northern Colorado Bears, who have now lost two games in a row.

NMSU will take the win, but they were sloppy with the ball, committing 19 turnovers while only dishing out 12 assists.

The Aggies will return to action at home on Wednesday at 7 p.m. to take on Cal State Northridge.
