Nearly $13 Million in state funding approved to provide wastewater service in Montana Vista

The Texas Water Development Board approved $12.8 Million in funding to provide first-time wastewater service to 800 homes in Montana Vista.

The homes are located in between Vista Del Esta and Krag Street, South of Montana Ave.

“Sometimes the septic tank gets full and we have to have people come in and empty the septic tank. So, not having that extra cost would be amazing. It would just be like in the city where we don’t have to worry about that,” Montana Vista resident Sandra Montelongo said.

Precinct 3 County Commissioner Vince Perez said this is a decision that has been decades in the making.

“Many residents had started to give up hope that this was even a possibility,” Perez said. “Septic tanks create a lot of problems and unsanitary situations for residents. Particularly in the summer, you’ll see a lot of sewage that bubbles up to the surface.”

The work on the wastewater infrastructure is slated to begin next summer. The construction will take about a year and a half.
