Super Saturday brings hundreds of shoppers to El Paso for last minute holiday shopping
As the holiday season stretches on, and with Christmas just six days away, businesses are packed with shoppers seeking out last minute holiday deals.
Cynthia Foght, the Director of Marketing at Cielo Vista Mall, told ABC-7 they expect to see even more shoppers pack into the mall over the next days leading up to Christmas.
“Super Saturday is known as the last Saturday right before Christmas which is actually the busiest shopping day of the entire year,” Foght said.
She said people are looking for those last minute deals so they can purchase last-minute holiday gifts. Foght also said that there is a national trend of rising sales, and a busier shopping season than last year, something she hopes translates into more business at Cielo Vista Mall. Foght said, that judging by the number of shoppers she’s seeing in the mall, they are experiencing a rise in retail sales.

Idalia Cabrera, the Assistant Manager for JC Penny in the Cielo Vista Mall, told ABC-7 they are experiencing a much busier holiday season than years past. She said they are seeing “a lot more shoppers … we’ve been getting a lot of great deals a lot of great sales, so we’ve been seeing the traffic increasing this holiday season.”
According to the National Retail Federation, over 90 percent of people still had shopping to do after Cyber Monday and were intentionally waiting for last minute deals before Christmas.
Foght told ABC-7 that Businesses in El Paso are seeing shoppers from hundreds of miles away, coming to the Sun city to take advantage of the great shopping and pick up their last-minute holiday gifts.
“We see them from about 300-mile radius because, not only do we get the Mexican national shoppers that come, but we get them from New Mexico, Ruidoso and Alamogordo, which is great,” Foght said.
Some shoppers told ABC-7 they do have their Christmas shopping finished while others said they still have work to do.
Foght said if you waited for the last minute to pick up your holiday gifts, you may want to get to the mall early to avoid the holiday crowds. “Stay calm, be positive, enjoy yourself, if you bring your children and make sure you keep an eye on them as far as their surroundings,” she said.
Foght also said that Santa Clause will be available to take pictures through Christmas Eve.
Most stores have extended hours for the holiday season, and offer in-store pick up if you would rather shop online.
