EPPD identifies suspect shot by police officers in South Central

El Paso Police Wednesday identified the man shot by two police officers as 25-year-old Luis Angel Hernandez.

The suspect was taken to University Medical Center after he was shot in the legs by the two officers, police said.

Authorities said the officers were responding to a family disturbance just after 8 p.m. on the 500 block of Huerta Street. When they arrived at the residence, Hernandez allegedly charged at the officers with a knife.

Police said Hernandez suffered life threatening injuries after he was shot by the officers.

Authorities said that the officers were not hurt and were put on administrative leave, standard protocol when police fire their gun. No charges have been filed in this case.
