Borderland kids attend Young Achievers Forum
Hundreds of borderland kids attend the annual Young Achievers Forum Saturday at University of Texas at El Paso.
The YAF is put together by CommUNITY in ACCÓN, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing the economic, civic and social well-being of Hispanics, to help middle school kids get the college experience to motivate them to attend college.
Ruben Chavez, Chair of YAF, told ABC-7, “They’re coming form all over to believe in themselves , to get motiviated, to use their god-given greatness to acheive great things.”
The kids went from classroom to class room learning about different careers and classes to take if they want to pursue that career.
Project engineer Michael Castañeda was one of the speakers at the event said, “I’m here to show the 6th graders what civil engineering is all about. Im here to educate them to give them an idea of what to expect.”
The forum started at 7:45 in the morning with a keynote address by Dr. Diana Natalicio followed by classes until 1:00 p.m.
