El Paso Coyotes player dies in serious crash on Border Highway Tuesday

A member of the El Paso Coyotes professional soccer team died in a serious crash on the Border Highway Tuesday night, according to team leadership.

Frank Briones died in the crash, which involved a tractor trailer, near Zaragoza Road right before 8 p.m.

He played on the Coyotes team for around a month and a half, according to Felipe Gonzalez with the Coyotes.

Speaking through a translator, Gonzalez said prior to joining the Coyotes Briones played for Cuervos FC Juarez, and quickly went professional due to his talent on the field.

Eastbound lanes were closed on the Border Highway while investigators were on the scene.

Traffic was forced off at Midway Drive.
