Police investigating ‘improper’ disposal of organic matter at apartment complex
Detectives with the police department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit are investigating “suspicious material” found inside an apartment complex dumpster in East El Paso.
Police said a preliminary investigation revealed “organic matter was improperly disposed by a bio-hazard cleaning service” at The Masters apartment complex at 1750 Lee Trevino.
In a statement sent to ABC-7, the president of the company that owns the apartment complex said the discovery is not related to any of its tenants. “We have been informed by Det. John Armendariz of the El Paso Police Department that the organic matter found in the dumpster was a result of illegal dumping by a biohazard company responsible for cleaning up an unfortunate incident that occurred elsewhere in the city. The incident is neither property or resident related and we will pursue recourse with the biohazard company,” said K.C. Griffin, president of Integrity Asset Management.
Earlier Thursday, a resident of the apartment complex told ABC-7 police found what appeared to be body parts in the dumpster. That information has not been officially confirmed by police. A department spokesman would only tell ABC-7 “the scene is being treated as a crime scene until proven otherwise.”
Police have been at the complex since early Thursday morning. A resident of the apartment complex also told ABC-7 the medical examiner arrived at the scene Thursday afternoon. Shortly after 3 p.m., police installed a black curtain around dumpster.
