El Paso police officers read to kids at Barnes and Noble

Some El Paso police officers took time off from their busy schedule to read to children at Barnes and Noble Saturday.

Dozens of kids showed up to hear officers read and they were joined by McGruff the crime dog.

The purpose of the event was to help build relationships with children, so if they ever need help, they’ll feel comfortable enough approaching an officer.

Sergeant Ron said the kids really enjoyed a story about a pug, “Well the officer who read it is very animated and the kids had a good time and that’s kind of what it comes down.” He added we don’t want to bombard them, you know with messages about law enforcement we just wanted to spend some time with them”

This is the first time EPPD has hosted this event, but Martin said he hopes to hold readings once a week.
