Routine traffic stop leads to arrests; discovery of cocaine and gun inside car, police say
Police officials said a routine traffic stop in Central El Paso led to the arrest of the driver on drug and gun charges.
Darrius Wright, 29, was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance over 4 grams/under 200 grams and Unlawful Carrying of a Handgun.
Wright’s passenger, 25-year-old Keelia Buda, was arrested for traffic warrants, police said.
The traffic stop and arrests were made in the 3900 block of Altura at about 2:48 a.m. on February 25, 2019.
Police said officers pulled Wright over because the car he was driving had a broken tail light.
While speaking with Wright, the police officer noticed a bag with cocaine inside the car, police said.
A search of the car turned up a handgun inside the center console, police said.
Both Wright and buda were booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility. Wright’s bonds were more than $30,000. Buda’s bond were more than $2,200.
