EPPD identifies cause, victim of deadly crash

A man who cut off another driver ended up causing a collision that cost him his life, according to El Paso police.

Police identified that driver as Victor Meza Jr., 22. In a news release, officials said that Meza was driving a Ford Explorer in the emergency lane of Loop 375 at a high rate of speed Thursday night when he tried getting back into the left lane of traffic. Officials said that Meza ended up colliding with a Toyota Tundra that was already in that lane, sending Meza’s Explorer into the concrete barrier.

The impact threw Meza, who was not wearing a seatbelt according to police, from the vehicle. He died at Del Sol Medical Center.

The man in the Tundra was not injured.

The Special Traffic Investigations unit said alcohol was also a factor in this crash.

This is the tenth traffic death of the year, compared to 9 at this time in 2018.
