Organ Fire is currently at 50 acres
It will likely take firefighters several days to extinguish a fire burning in the Organ Mountains, according to a spokesman with the Bureau of Land Management.
The fire, which ignited on Saturday evening, is currently burning at 50 acres, said Rico Smith, a public information officer for the Bureau of Land Management.
“With the winds and the increase in temperatures over the last few days, there’s always the potential for fire,” said Rico Smith, a public information officer for the Bureau of Land Management, on Saturday evening. “We have not had a lot of precipitation over the last month.”
The fire is not a threat to residents at this time, Smith said.
For perspective, another fire broke out near San Augustin Pass on the Organ Mountains last June, growing to 4,300 acres at one point. That fire burned for several days.
