NMSU arrives in Salt Lake City ahead of NCAA Tournament

The NMSU men’s basketball team arrived in Salt Lake City ahead of Thursday’s first round NCAA Tournament game against Auburn.

The Aggies are a 12 seed and will take on the 5th-seeded Tigers Thursday at 11:30 a.m.

Prior to departing for Salt Lake City, the Aggies were sent off by Aggie fans and the band at the Pan American Center.

“They have a lot of heart and this team is going to go a long ways,” one fan told ABC-7.

NMSU is appearing in its third straight tournament but has a tall task in upsetting the SEC Tournament champions.

“We haven’t played anybody quite like them,” head coach Chris Jans said. “They possess all the talent and size and the athleticism on top of being very well coached. Bruce Pearl has been doing this a long time. He’s won a lot of basketball games and a lot of championships. He’s won a lot of NCAA Tournament games. And they’re veteran. They’ll have their team prepared.”

The Aggies have won 19 straight games heading into the tournament.

The ABC-7 sports team is in Salt Lake City and will have complete coverage of NMSU’s run in the tournament.
