Chris Jans: I plan on being at NMSU for ‘a long, long time’
What will New Mexico State University do to secure Men’s Basketball Coach Chris Jans for a third season following another impressive season?
” Our number one priority in the athletic department is retaining Chris Jans , ” said Athletic Director Mario Moccia , speaking to reporters on Monday.
The NMSU men’s basketball team was the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) regular season and tournament champions in 2019. Jans has definitely proven himself at the university with an impressive average of 29 wins over two seasons.
” Basketball is riding an impressive wave right now, and there’s a desire with a lot of seniors coming back to keep that going, ” Moccia said.
The coach did acknowledge he desperately wanted to win the first round of the NCAA Tournament and ” break through that barrier, ” but he said he’s not dwelling on the loss.
” It doesn’t do you any good, ” Jans said. ” It doesn’t change the outcome of our game. There are no do-overs. We’re not going to get to replay that game. ”
After another successful season, is the coach considering offers from other institutions?
” All that is to me is a distraction when you let your mind wander like that, ” Jans said. ” I don’t think anything good can happen from it. I love being here. I love being the head coach at New Mexico State. ”
The coach even went so far as implying that he would stick with the Aggies for another season.
” I don’t have a decision to make; I’m the head coach at New Mexico State right now, ” Jans said. ” I plan on being the head coach at New Mexico State for a long, long time.
