BP: Guatemalan wanted on child sex assault charges in Georgia detained in El Paso

U.S. Border Patrol Agents arrested a wanted sex offender attempting to blend in with a group of making an illegal entry near downtown El Paso on Sunday morning.

On March 24, 2019, agents detained a group of undocumented immigrants who allegedly entered the country illegally just west of the Paso Del Norte Port of Entry.

The group was transported to the station for processing where it was discovered one of the undocumented immigrants had an active warrant.

The agents identified the man as 52-year-old Jose-Jose Marcos of Guatemala.

A criminal background check utilizing Marcos’ fingerprints allegedly revealed he had an outstanding warrant from Gainesville, Georgia for violation of a 2016 court order.

The order stemmed from Marcos’ previous arrest for sex offense against a child, child molestation and human trafficking.

The Border Patrol said Marcos was turned over to the El Paso Police Department and is awaiting extradition to Georgia.

Marcos allegedly entered the U.S. with his 10-year-old son, a U.S. citizen. The boy was turned over to Texas Child Protective Services (CPS).

On Friday, March 22, 2019, U.S. Border Patrol Agents working in Sunland Park arrested a man from Ecuador as he allegedly attempted to enter the United States illegally.

During processing, Border Patrol agents identified the man as 22-year-old John Sebastian Yunga-Chuqui . Border Patrol agents learned Yunga-Chuqui had an outstanding arrest warrant out of Worcester, Massachusetts.

Officials said Yunga-Chuqui admitted to having posted bail and then fleeing the country before his trial where he was facing rape, indecent assault, and battery charges.

Yunga-Chuqui is currently being held at the Dona Ana County Detention Center pending extradition.
