Alamogordo man pleads guilty to sexual assault charges
An Alamogordo man pleaded guilty to two counts of sexually assaulting a minor on Tuesday.
Twelfth Judicial District Attorney John P. Sugg said 22-year-old Jason Whitt pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree criminal sexual penetration of a minor (child under 13).
Alamogordo Police were called out to the 600 block of Lovers Lane on June 2, 2018 in reference to a possible sexual assault on a child.
When officers arrived, they learned that a visually impaired four-year-old child told her mother she had been touched by Whitt . Authorities said Whitt is related to the victim’s father and was staying at the family’s house as a guest.
Authorities said during an interview with police, Whitt admitted to touching the child sexually.
Whitt is currently being held in the Otero County Detention Center without bond.
Whitt faces a minimum of 18 years in prison and a maximum of 36 years in prison at a sentencing hearing that will take place later this year.
He will also be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
