CBP: Pregnant undocumented woman faints at Border Patrol station
The pregnant and unresponsive woman rushed from the Paso Del Norte Port of Entry to a hospital in El Paso is an undocumented immigrant, a Customs and Border Protection spokesman confirms.
The El Paso Fire Department told ABC-7 Border Patrol agents called emergency dispatch shortly before 1 p.m. to report the woman was not responsive.
The woman was picked up by paramedics on Border Patrol property not too far away from the makeshift camp for Central American migrants underneath the international bridge.
CBP could not confirm if the woman became unresponsive in the makeshift camp.
” A 21-year-old pregnant female alien fainted while in Border Patrol custody at the El Paso Station satellite processing facility, ” said the CBP spokesman, ” Medical staff at the facility recommended further evaluation at the hospital, and the female was transported to University Medical Center. ”
Federal officials say hundreds of undocumented immigrants are arriving at the border in El Paso to request asylum with Border Patrol agents.
The makeshift camp underneath the Paso Del Norte Port of Entry was set up to get migrants out of the elements while they are transferred to a processing facility. While at the camp, the migrants are given food and water. Women and children under 17 also undergo a health screening.
