WATCH LIVE: The body of slain deputy Peter Herrera is escorted to its final resting place
The body of fallen El Paso County Sheriff’s Deputy Peter J. Herrera is being escorted to its final resting place. The procession will go from Far East El Paso to Del Valle High School in the Lower Valley.
It will then go back north to Deputy Herrera’s final resting place at Evergreen Cemetery East.

Herrera was shot multiple times during a traffic stop in San Elizario the early morning hours of March 22, 2019. He succumbed to his injuries on March 24, 2019. Facundo Chavez, the man who allegedly shot Deputy Herrera, has been charged with two counts of Capital Murder.
The sheriff’s office said the community can expect a heavy law enforcement presence in the areas near and around St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church, located at 12200 Vista Del Sol.
The Sheriff’s Office will be rerouting all traffic on Vista Del Sol Dr. between Bob Hope Dr. and Peter Cooper Dr. That area will remain closed from about 9:00 a.m. Friday until approximately 1:00 p.m.
This is being done to accommodate the overwhelming amount of law enforcement officers expected to participate in the funeral procession.
Members of the public who wish to attend the services will only be able to enter St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church via the entrance on Peter Cooper Drive.
At the conclusion, the Sheriff’s Office will escort Deputy Peter J. Herrera to his final resting place.

– Eastbound on Vista Del Sol DR
– South on S Joe Battle BLVD
– Enter State Loop 375 S
– Exit Americas Ave (Exit 45A )
– West on North Loop DR
– North on Bordeaux DR
– Pass Del Valle High School (Deputy P. Herrera’s Alma Mater)
– West on Betel DR
– Pass Harmony School of Excellence
– South on Burgundy DR
– Pass Le Barron Park Elementary School
– East on North Loop DR
– North on North Americas AVE
– Enter State Loop 375 N
– Exit 35 Montana AVE (US 62 / 180)
– North Joe Battle BLVD
– East on Montana AVE (US 62 / 180)
– Enter Evergreen Cemetery (12400 Montana AVE)
The public can expect a large procession and for the roads near and around the above mention, areas to be closed for the duration of the procession. Normal traffic flow will resume once the end of the procession passes through the area.
