Migrants apprehended at Paisano near Executive; confronted by member of armed militia group
A group of over 60 migrants was apprehended on the West Side of El Paso on Wednesday night.
Some of the migrants were in bad shape with at least one person being put in an ambulance.
Police and fire units came to the scene near Paisano and Executive Boulevard to help handle the situation.
A border patrol unit also arrived quickly to begin questioning and processing these arrivals.
Additionally, there was at least one member of a well known local and controversial armed civilian group in the area recording the events on his phone.
“We kind of showed an example of why the civilian group, like ourselves, is here assisting the border patrol,” said Guardian Patriots member Jim Benvie. “Because they’re overstrained, there is too many people coming through. Everybody’s got to do their part to help. We have a crisis here and the president has declared a national emergency.”
However, many local officials have taken issue with the existence of that group, which was recently expelled from their makeshift headquarters area in Sunland Park.
And Wednesday night’s situation was just a small example of a much larger ongoing border surge, as border patrol said it’s dealing with an unprecedented work load.
