Smell leads Lower Valley man to body in irrigation ditch

The man found dead in El Paso’s Lower Valley, identified by a relative as 40-year-old Fernando Ortiz, had been missing since Friday, relatives told ABC-7.

El Paso Police investigators are the scene where the body was found on the 7600 block of Barton near Carolina.

Area residents told ABC-7 one of their neighbors found the body in an irrigation ditch. The man was reportedly drawn to the discovery by the smell and found the body. He is being questioned by police.

ABC-7 noticed police were speaking with a witness who motioned, with his arms, what appeared to be a rifle and shooting.
