Suspected drunk driver in speeding Mustang crashes into east El Paso building
Police arrested a 26-year-old man on drunk driving charges after officers said they watched him speed down a busy east El Paso street behind the wheel of a Mustang before crashing into a building.
Jose Arturo Horta was being held Monday in the El Paso County Detention Facility under a $1,000 bond.
His arrest came shortly after 2 a.m. when police said they found Horta’s car crashed into a wall of the O’Reilly Auto Parts store at 1794 Zaragoza just moments after seeing the Mustang traveling down the street at over 80 miles per hour.
“The officer caught up to the 2016 Mustang through a cloud of dust and saw the Mustang with all tires blown out and extensive damage driving from the rear of a business,” Sgt. Enrique Carrillo said.
It was one of two incidents Monday involving a Mustang crashing into a building. The other happened on the city’s west side, where a possibly stolen Mustang slammed into a home along Camino Alegre.
