Stormy weather triggered power outages, lightning delays, flood advisory

Stormy weather conditions across the Borderland Wednesday night resulted in significant lightning, power outages, and flooding concerns.

About 2,300 customers lost power in El Paso’s Lower Valley, according to El Paso Electric. The utility company said it was able to completely restore electric service by 9:45 p.m.

Elsewhere, the El Paso Locomotive soccer game was delayed due to lightning spotted around Southwest University Park downtown, but they were eventually able to resume play and finish the match.

The National Weather Service also issued an urban Flood Advisory for south central El Paso County including Mission Valley, Clint, Horizon City, San Elizario, Socorro, Sparks and Colonia Del Paso. The advisory said the potential existed for flooding along area roadways and waterways. It expired as of 10 p.m.
