El Paso County drug raid leads to man’s arrest for pipe-bomb discovery

A 57-year-old man is being held in the El Paso County Detention Facility after sheriff’s deputies said they found him with a pipe-bomb during a drug raid.

Burt Allen Gidcumb is charged with possession of a prohibited weapon.

The pipe-bomb discovery was made as deputies served a search warrant for drugs at a home in the 13500 block of Chicken Ranch Road last week.

The El Police Department Bomb Squad was called out to detonate the bomb, which deputies described as having “minimal impact” and said caused no injuries.

The Sheriff’s Office said 11 ounces of marijuana was also seized at the home — and a second man, 35-year-old Alfredo Cruz, was arrested on a drug possession charge.
