Families struggle after being burned out of their mobile homes near Las Cruces

Two families are without homes after a huge fire Wednesday afternoon severely damaged four mobile homes just north of Las Cruces.

Jessie Wilson is the owner of one of the mobile homes. He saw the fire with his own eyes just feet behind his home and captured it on video seconds before he had to evacuate.

“It was…like a really terrifying experience,” Wilson said on Thursday. “It was a lot of damage. A lot of people could have got killed or hurt.”

Thankfully he and his family made it out of their home safely, but now it’s unlivable.

“Everything got destroyed,” Wilson told ABC-7. “Nothing in the house we can use anymore because of fire damage, and we just got to start over.”

The American Red Cross is helping out, putting them up in a hotel. However, the residents said they don’t have a place to return to without a home. They have set up a gofundme page to help start their lives over after losing their home of 9 years.
