19 weekend slayings in Juarez puts September murder toll at 122; TV model among latest victims
Another violent weekend closed out the month in Juarez, with prosecutors telling Mexican media outlets of 19 more homicides that put September’s death toll at 122.
The most prominent of the murder victims, according to El Mexicano , was a model who appeared on television — but it provided no further details.
El Diario reported on Monday that most of the weekend slayings were tied to renewed feuding between rival drug gangs. The killings weren’t concentrated to a particular section of the city, but were scattered throughout, the newspaper said.
This past weekend’s violence followed in the footsteps of 21 slayings two weekends ago, which authorities had said set a new murder record for Juarez.
