72-year-old man crossing the street & struck by SUV is El Paso’s 48th traffic fatality of year

A 72-year-old man who was crossing the street has become El Paso’s 48th traffic fatality of the year, police said Wednesday.

Javier Garcia died at University Medical Center from injuries he suffered on Monday morning when he was struck by an SUV in the 500 block of South Kansas Street.

“Gracia was crossing Kansas Street using the crosswalk when he was struck by a black Suburban driven by 26 -year old Steven Uribe,” police said in a statement. “Uribe stopped at the intersection but made a right turn from Third onto Kansas and failed to yield the right of way to Mr. Garcia at the crosswalk.”

Police did not indicate whether Uribe would face any charges in the death.
