EL PASO, Texas -- About 200,000 people were estimated to have lined Montana Avenue on Thanksgiving Day for Oscar Leeser’s Hyundai of El Paso Sun Bowl Parade.

It was 83rd edition of the annual tradition under sometimes rainy conditions with temperatures in the lower 50's.

“Despite the weather, it did not deter close to 200,000 El Pasoans from attending Oscar Leeser’s Hyundai of El Paso Thanksgiving Day Parade,” said Sun Bowl Association Executive Director Bernie Olivas. “The parade featured some of the best floats in recent memory, and I would like to thank all the volunteers who helped put on such an enormous event. It was a great way to kick off the Thanksgiving holiday.”

The parade kicked off at 10 a.m. near the corner of Montana Avenue and Ochoa Street and made its way on Montana to Copia Street.

Among the key parade sights was Ron Stallworth, the El Paso native and retired police officer who infiltrated the ranks of the Ku Klux Klan in Colorado in the late 1970s. He was the Grand Marshal for this year’s parade.

The World-Famous Budweiser Clydesdales were also slated to participate in the parade. However because of the weather conditions, the eight giant horses were not able to be harnessed and hitched to the famous red beer wagon.
