Mon, son arrested; charged with assaulting off-duty El Paso police officer
EL PASO, Texas - A 20-year-veteran of the El Paso Police Department was assaulted and threatened with a knife by a mother and son, according to El Paso Police.
Investigators say it happened on May 9, just before 9:30 p.m., at the Resler and Escondido intersection in west El Paso.
Police say Officer Delia Dyer was off duty and driving northbound on Resler. Police say, Shaughn Gonzalez, 18, was driving a truck and did not yield the right of way at Escondido. Police say that caused Dyer to crash into Shaughn Gonzalez's truck, disabling both vehicles.
Police say as Dyer and Gonzalez were waiting for a patrol officer to respond, Josephine Gonzalez Rosales, 40, Shaughn Gonzalez's mother, assaulted Dyer. Police then say the mother and son tried to tackle Dyer to the floor. Members of the El Paso Fire Department stepped in to stop the assault.
Police say Shaughn Gonzalez displayed a knife in a threatening manner toward the office. Police say both mother and son left before officers arrived.
Police say Gonzalez Rosales returned a short time later and was taken into custody.
Her son was arrested the following day. Shaughn is facing aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, his mother is charged with assault causing bodily injury.
Both have since been released from the El Paso County Detention Facility.
Dyer is a 20-year veteran assigned to the Investigations Bureau.
