El Paso college baseball star Ivan Melendez recognized by City Council for receiving 2022 Dick Hauser Trophy

El Paso City Council

EL PASO, Texas -- El Paso's City Council recognized El Paso college baseball star Ivan Melendez for being the 35th recipient of the Dick Hauser Trophy Wednesday.

Melendez's long list of accomplishments in college baseball, including receiving the 2022 Dick Hauser Trophy, prompted the Council to designate the month of July 2022 as 'Ivan Melendez Month.'

"Knowing that I have a strong support system from the City of El Paso just definitely cuts the pressure on my end to go out there and perform and have fun," Melendez said, "I'm going to continue to make everybody proud, everybody in the City of El Paso and just put them on the map and continue to be a great leader and a great mentor for the youth baseball players of El Paso."

Melendez's mother teared up as she spoke about her son's accomplishments.

"I'm proud that my son has been able to get educated in one of the best universities in the country, and he's able to provide that hope for Latino kids from El Paso," said Melendez's mother, Julie Melendez.
