EL PASO, Texas - ABC-7 received a statement from Border Patrol that just over half of the 1,300 encounters they're reporting daily here in the El Paso sector are from Venezuela.

Wednesday, ABC-7 crews saw dozens of migrants sitting underneath the highway right near the U.S./Mexico border.

And a spokesman for Border Patrol said Border Patrol set up stadium fencing on Wednesday to help keep the area controlled.

ABC-7 received a statement from Border Patrol Wednesday afternoon that over the last five days, Border Patrol is seeing an average of 660 Venezuelan migrants arrive in the El Paso sector.

A spokesperson from Border Patrol told ABC-7 that he feels that agents are better equipped and prepared to handle mass migrant surges than they were in 2019.

They have implemented new equipment, including buses that allow for Border Patrol agents and civilian Processing Coordinators to process migrants through fingerprints and facial recognition.
