Las Cruces transitional housing program to help individuals seeking services in the community

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico -- A transitional housing program for individuals seeking services in the community is underway in a residential neighborhood just down the street from Hermosa Heights Elementary School.

Angels With Broken Wings is a nonprofit organization that will provide housing for up to nine men who are motivated to change. The peer-run program aims to help assess the needs of residents and help with referrals or resources.

The program will not take any sexual offenders or those previously convicted of arson but is otherwise not eliminating people who have been incarcerated in the past.

Potential residents are screened before being approved for housing and must follow strict rules such as being on time for curfew, no use of illegal substances and no visitors. Peers will also monitor the property, and cameras will be set up at the residence. The nonprofit is currently looking for a housing manager to live there.

Funding is based largely on donations from the community. For more information on the program and how you can donate, call 575-288-8766 or email ginger@angelswithbrokenwings.com.
