FBI arrests two Venezuelan nationals for assaulting a federal police officer
EL PASO, Texas - The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) arrested two undocumented migrants after investigation revealed they had assaulted a federal office near Ascarate Park on Halloween.
Kevin Escalona Gonzalez and Yuleixy Mata Fuentes were taken into custody and charged them with the assault.
The FBI said a U.S. Border Patrol agent were advised of a group of undocumented migrants crossing in to the U.S. The agent followed the group as they made their way into a residential area near the park.
At that point the group ran, the agent was able to approach Fuentes and Gonzalez. The two did not comply with the agent's commands.
As the agent tried to handcuff them, they reportedly resisted arrest. According to the investigative report, the two pushed, dragged, and punched the agent until he was able to regain control of the situation.
“The men and women of the U.S. Border Patrol work tirelessly to keep our borders safe,” said
FBI El Paso Special Agent in Charge Jeffrey R. Downey. “Assaults on Border Patrol agents or
any other federal agents/officers or task force officers will not be tolerated and will be addressed
swiftly by our office so they can continue to carry out their sworn duty to protect our
communities.”

Gonzalez and Fuentes appeared before a U.S. Magistrate Judge Nov. 1 and are currently at the El Paso County Correctional Facility.
