700 new body-worn cameras going to patrol and traffic officers in El Paso

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- 700 new body-worn cameras are going to patrol and traffic officers, said Assistant El Paso Police Chief Zina Silva at Tuesday's City Council meeting.

Last March, the council approved spending over $6,000,000 from the American Rescue Plan Act to buy the cameras as well as 450 vehicle cameras.

Silva said as of now, El Paso Police's Pebble Hills Regional Command is fully outfitted with the cameras.

The department already had 34 body-worn cameras, which were bought using a $110,000 grant secured by District 7 City Representative Henry Rivera.
