El Paso Police Headquarters to be named after former late Police Chief Greg Allen
EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- The current and new El Paso Police Headquarters will be named after former late Police Chief Greg Allen, City Council voted unanimously Tuesday.
Chief Allen served the City of El Paso for 44 years, working his way up the ranks as sergeant, lieutenant and finally, Chief of Police.
Allen passed away last month after recovering from a procedure.
Over 4,000 signatures from police, their family members, and the public were gathered in support of the renaming.
"He was a good friend," said El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser Tuesday. "He was a friend because he really cared. And he didn't hide it. He didn't hide it whether he liked you or didn't like you, because he was very honest with himself and with all of us."
