Bel Air High School students weigh in following student’s death at party
EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- Bel Air High School students quickly reacted to the death of a fellow student.
A desert party in Horizon City early Sunday morning resulted in a shooting that claimed the life of a 15-year-old.
Investigators said more than 200 people were present at the party.
Some students told ABC-7 they were shocked when they learned it was their friend who had died.
"Ryan was such a loving person, like, he was an outgoing person. He was always there for somebody when you needed it, he was someone you could rely on," one student said.
Other fellow classmates said Ryan had encouraged them to attend that party but decided not to go.
"He was taken way too early and he had a lot to prove. He was doing a lot of things for our community and for our friend group. He was really someone we could look up to."
Some students said they are still trying to process their friend's death.
Ysleta Independent School District told ABC-7 they would have counselors available at Bel Air High for both students and staff who may need additional help.
"Ysleta Independent School District sends its deepest condolences and heartfelt prayers to Ryan's family and to the Bel Air High School community," a district spokesperson said.
