El Paso man sentenced to 12 years for vehicular homicide, other charges
LAS CRUCES, New Mexico (KVIA) -- An El Paso man who was found guilty of homicide by vehicle and sentenced to 12 years in prison. He was also found guilty of multiple other charges.
Patrick Woods, 38, was convicted of killing two people, one count of resisting, evading, or obstructing an officer, open container and failure to give immediate notice of a crash.
Officials said Woods was speeding and driving recklessly on Highway 213 in Chaparral, ultimately causing a crash. He allegedly lost control of his Jeep, ending up hitting two vehicles in the opposite lanes. Two people were pronounced dead at the scene -- they are Jose Marrero and Desiree Seanez, according to attorney Laney Piercy, the family's attorney.
Witnesses said Woods walked away from the scene. He was located several hours later hiding in a ditch. Officials said open containers of alcohol were found in Woods' Jeep.
