Temperature Swings: Safety Tips

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- Across various regions, including El Paso, we're witnessing extreme temperature swings. Multiple areas have experienced above-average temperatures since summer, with a sudden temperature drop of 20 to 30 degrees. After the cold spell, expect milder conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, here's how to protect yourself, your pets, your vehicles, and your pipes.

Safety for People and Pets

Limit outdoor exposure, prepare for potential power outages, and check on vulnerable individuals. Keep your pets warm, dry, and indoors.

Vehicle and Plumbing Care

Maintain your vehicle by checking wiper fluid, tire pressure, tread, and engine oil. When traveling, stay informed about road conditions and pack an emergency supply kit. Insulate pipes if possible, open sink cabinets to expose pipes to heated air, and disconnect hoses while turning off water to sprinkler systems.
