TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) — A ride-hailing driver has recounted how he had narrow escape when a huge tree smashed onto his vehicle as Typhoon Kong-rey swept over Taiwan, also sweeping away metal roofs and sending landslides onto roads and into houses. Song Zi-jie was trapped but uninjured when the huge tree came down on the passenger compartment of his car on Thursday evening. Kong-rey crossed Taiwan at typhoon strength on Thursday, causing landslides and bringing down trees. Two people died and more than 500 others were injured. It has now weakened from a typhoon to a tropical storm but is still forecast to bring heavy rain and high winds to Shanghai and other parts of China’s east coast on Friday.
