Police have identified the person killed by train collision

(Update) - Las Cruces Police have identified 46-year-old Manuel Jose Aguirre as the person that was killed in the train collision.

According to officials, police and fire were sent to a report of a man being struck by a train near the 1700 block of south Main Street on Nov. 26th just after 2 p.m.

Officials arrived to the area where they found Aguirre unresponsive with multiple injuries and was later declared dead on the scene.

Police say that Aguirre was walking north on the train tracks and ignored warnings from the northbound train.

Due to the investigation, the train was stopped and caused traffic at two railroad crossings to temporarily to find alternative routes, according to police.


Las Cruces police are investigating tonight after deadly train collision.

It happened this afternoon just before 2 p.m. Police and fire were called to the 1700 block of south Main Street in Las Cruces.

Once on scene, officers found a man who was struck by a northbound BNSF train. The man was unresponsive with multiple injuries, and was pronounced dead on the scene.

As of now police have not identified the victim.
