Man charged in connection to South-Central El Paso shooting, victim in critical condition

UPDATE (6:34 p.m.) -- El Paso police arrested a 29-year-old man from Las Cruces in connection with the shooting. Police charged Javier Arroyo Gerardo for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

According to police, officers found a 21-year-old man also from Las Cruces who was shot several times. He was sent to a hospital. Police said he was last known to be in critical condition.

Investigators said a private event happened near 300 N. San Marcial Street close to Austin High School. Police said during the event, the victim and Gerardo started arguing. Gerardo shot the victim before leaving the event.

Police arrested and booked Gerardo into the county detention facility Monday. He had a bond of $150,000.


EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- The El Paso Police Department says that one man was shot in South-Central Monday night and was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

According to police, officers were called out to a report of a shooting near the intersection of N. San Marcial and Durazno at around 9:13 pm.

When officers arrived they found a man who had been shot and was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

Police say that the Crimes Against Persons Unit has taken over the investigation.

Officials did not release what led up to the shooting or if police have a suspect in custody.
