Stolen car being chased by DPS troopers crashes in northeast El Paso; 1 hurt, 2 arrested
EL PASO, Texas -- A woman was injured and two men were arrested following a chase by Texas Dept. of Public Safety troopers that ended in a crash in northeast El Paso.
Authorities said the troopers were chasing a stolen car when it collided with another vehicle at Harlan Drive and Dyer Street about 9 a.m. Friday.
A woman driving the vehicle that collided with the stolen car was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The two men inside the stolen car being chased were arrested at the crash scene. Marco Melendez, 29, and Jessie Soto, 18, were each charged with evading arrest; Melendez was also charged with meth possession.
Events began unfolding after troopers went looking for Melendez to arrest him on an outstanding warrant for aggravated robbery.
Authorities said they observed him and Soto leaving a home in the stolen car near Transmountain Road and U.S. 54 and gave chase.
When the stolen car reached the intersection of Dyer and Harlan, troopers said Melendez sped through the stop sign triggering the crash.
