2 found hurt after far east El Paso traffic crash as police, deputies & constables converge on the scene
EL PASO, Texas — Two people were found hurt after a traffic crash in far east El Paso late Friday night.
El Paso police officers, sheriff’s deputies and constables converged on the scene at Montwood Drive and Sun Fire Boulevard; red crime scene tape was erected around the area.
Fire department dispatchers said two injured people from the scene were transported to local hospitals.
A police spokesman told ABC-7, “It's a crash, but we don't know how it happened or if that is reason for the injuries." However, he added it was not thought to be a shooting.
A spokeswoman for the Sheriff's Office referred questions to the constables, who in turn referred questions about the incident back to sheriff's deputies.
Under Texas law, county constables generally serve civil court papers such as subpoenas and temporary restraining orders, as well as act as bailiffs for Justice of the Peace Court. They can also perform other law enforcement functions such as issuing traffic citations.
But it was not immediately clear why constables would be involved in investigating an apparent traffic crash, as the El Paso police and sheriff each have specially-trained traffic investigators.
No further details were made available by authorities early Saturday morning.
