El Paso man who shot self arrested with 2 others as police seize guns, drugs, cash, dogs
UPDATE, Sept. 1: El Paso police on Tuesday announced three arrests and the seizure of a cache of drugs, guns, dogs and cash stemming from a shooting last week that investigators said turned out to be self-inflicted.
23–year-old Devon McMullen, who was found on the street suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg and was briefly hospitalized, has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and five various drug felonies.
Two others at the shooting scene also were arrested: 25–year-old Amanda Leal is facing numerous drug counts and 13 traffic warrants, while 23 –year-old Jeffery Oneal Freeman is charged with assaulting police and resisting arrest.
The trio were all being held in the downtown jail on bonds ranging from $25,000 to $40,000.
Police said a search of a nearby home turned up several guns, four pounds of marijuana, 16 grams of meth, 200 grams of ecstasy, 2 grams of mushrooms, 265 grams of cocaine, 339 grams of marijuana, and over $6,000 cash. Animal control also took custody of 16 dogs found in the home.
ORIGINAL REPORT, Aug. 28: EL PASO, Texas -- A man was shot in east El Paso and taken to the hospital early Friday morning.
The shooting was reported just after midnight in the 2100 block of Octubre Drive, which is in a residential area near Hanks High School.
The El Paso Fire Department said the victim suffered serious injuries.
El Paso Police didn't immediately indicate if anyone had been arrested or if they knew what led up to the shooting.
Officials also said two other people were taken to the hospital, but not in serious condition. Police have not said why the pair were hospitalized.
