El Paso man accused in stolen donut truck crash while drunk faces ‘crime spree’ charges

UPDATE, July 29: 23–year-old Carlos Emmanuel Andrade, who was arrested after allegedly crashing a stolen Krispy Kreme truck while driving drunk, now faces a slew of additional charges stemming from what El Paso police on Thursday called a "4-hour crime spree."

Andrade was being held in the downtown jail on $132,000 bond on the added charges including Evading Arrest or Detention in a Motor Vehicle, Accident Involving Damage to a Vehicle, Accident Involving Injury and Resisting Arrest.

Sheriff's deputies had previously charged Andrade with burglary following his arrest early Wednesday.

Investigators said Andrade's crime spree began when he went on a "beer run" late Tuesday night at the Circle K store at 4201 N. Mesa Street, which is also the location where he allegedly stole the donut truck.

"A combative Carlos Emmanuel Andrade was taken into custody at 6099 Montana after officers disabled the box truck during a pursuit. Prior to the pursuit that resulted in his arrest, Andrade crashed into a house and cars in the Pebble Hills area and struck a pedestrian in the central area," police wrote in an incident report.

Authorities indicated Andrade could still face even more charges stemming from the incidents.

ORIGINAL REPORT, July 28: EL PASO, Texas – An El Paso man is accused of stealing a Krispy Kreme donuts truck and going for a drunken ride that ended in a crash early Wednesday.

El Paso sheriff's deputies and police arrested Carlos Emmanuel Andrade on burglary charges after he allegedly stole the truck from a westside location and then used it to break into a closed 7-11 Convenience store in the 700 block of N. Fabens Road about 1:20 a.m.

Authorities said the store break-in came shortly after an apparently intoxicated Andrade fled after crashing the truck into another vehicle near S. Darrington Road and Rudi Kuefner Drive just after midnight.

He was finally taken into custody near I-10 westbound and the Eastlake on-ramp about 1:45 a.m., according to officials.
